The Milton-Ulladulla U3A Campus

Our existence is due mainly to the vision and efforts of Harry and Marcia Higgs.

Harry Higgs was a senior rocket engineer at Woomera who went on to develop federal policies on the environment.  Australia owes a lot to Harry's perception and dedication to the Great Barrier Reef and our National Parks. As a member of the Club of Rome (an international group of visionaries) he took part in discussions about the many future predicaments facing humanity. On retirement, Harry and Marcia became the virtual founders of Milton-Ulladulla U3A.  Harry died in October 1994, and is greatly mourned. Until very recently, Marcia was still very active in our U3A, giving many years of service as a French language tutor as well as being an attender at many courses; in recognition, she is the patron of the Milton-Ulladulla U3A.

When the Campus acquired its own meeting room in the Milton Cultural Centre, it was named the Harry Higgs Room.

Membership and Joining Courses

Membership of Milton-Ulladulla Campus costs $20 a year, renewable each January – but you can join anytime.  Membership makes you eligible to enrol in courses, join in activities, and provides insurance cover when at U3A.  If you enrol on a course, you pay a course fee per term; currently, one course costs $10 a term, a second costs $5; subsequent courses in the same term are free.

Joining a course could not be simpler. As a member, each term you will receive our Newsletter. From it, you select the course in which you would like to participate, phone the tutor to enrol, and then just turn up on the day and pay your dues.

Management

The campus is managed by a committee of office-bearers and members, elected each July at the Campus Annual General Meeting. The committee meets quarterly. The current Committee Members and their contact details are listed on the back page of the newsletter posted on this site

Could YOU become a course leader or tutor?

Do you have a knowledge or skill, and an enthusiasm that you could share with others?

Our members have an insatiable appetite for courses and classes, and make appreciative audiences.

No formal qualifications are needed to lead or to tutor a group. If you like interacting with people, and are prepared to put a little spadework into preparing discussion or tuition sessions, you will enjoy the satisfaction of enlightening and exchanging with your fellow members.

Remember, "Tutors are Treasures";
would you like to become a "Treasure"?
